It is unfortunate that we often measure success or failure based on some &quot;tests&quot; set by others. I know very few of us can get away from that but do try to take in your successes as well, e.g., a lot of your students appreciate your effort.

BTW, you need to set your priorities. If exploring journalism opportunities is your main goal, then that is what you should focus on.
